Our crash course teaches film photography from the basics of composition, learning metering and proper exposure, determining exposure without a meter (Sunny 16 rules), processing and chemistry, and scanning your photos.

Any age group with any photographic experience is welcome.

Course Duration: Two days, 10AM - 5PM (or at dark)

Pricing: £60 for 2 day course, including camera hire, film, and film processing

  • Box camera hire - Kodak Brownie Six-20 or similar

  • 35mm Camera hire - Canon AE-1 or similar

  • 1 roll of 120 film

Lunch (12PM - 12:45PM)

Photo Assignment (12:45PM - 3PM)

  • Load your box camera and take 8 shots on a photo walk around Ealing

    • Choose your photos wisely and take special attention to your lighting situation

    • Composition and exposure matters more than anything else

    • Remove film and return back

Understanding Processing (3PM - 5PM)

  • Differences in processing methods

  • Understanding the chemistry

  • The equipment

  • Demonstration of processing film

Dismissal (~5PM)

 

Film will be processed and scanned overnight and reviewed at the beginning of Day 2

Day 2

Reviewing our work (10AM-11AM)

Exposures (11AM - 12PM)

  • Figuring out exposure without a meter

    • Sunny 16

    • Exposure Reciprocity

Lunch (12PM - 12:45PM)

Understanding the Tools Pt 2 (12:45PM - 1:30PM)

  • Your 35mm Camera

    • Loading - aperture - focus - shutter speed

    • Your settings for today

    • When to adjust knowing Sunny 16 rules

Photo Assignment (1:30PM - 4PM)

  • Load your SLR and take 36 shots on a photo walk around Ealing

    • Special attention to aperture, shutter speed, and focus

    • Meter when you need to

    • Remove film and return back

  • 1st stop - Ealing Broadway ~1 hour

    • Understanding Street Photography

  • 2nd stop - Walpole Park ~1 hour

    • Understanding Landscapes

The Scanning Process (4:00PM - 5PM)

  • Equipment

    • Flatbed scanners

    • Drum Scanners

    • Digital Camera Imaging

  • Editing with the basics

    • Using iPhoto, Lightroom app

Dismissal (~5PM)

 

Film will be processed, scanned, and made available via WeTransfer download.
